ざんしんシルクと和紙の５本指靴下「main du chat（マン・ドゥ・シャ）」

saredo があたらしくリリースする、ZANSHIN series 第一弾、五股旅（いつまたたび）。

saredo の ito「cirque du soie -絹のサーカス-」を兵庫県の撚糸工場さんで撚り合わせる際に、ロス分として通常廃棄されるようなごく少量のシルク紬糸（シルクノイル）の残糸を一緒に引き取って保管し、ある程度溜まってきたタイミングで糸を愛知県の撚糸工場さんに送り、１本１本丁寧な手作業でつなぎ、再度工業用規格として使える分量までつなぎ合わせた再生糸と、JAPANESE PAPER YARN と呼ばれ、軽くハリ・コシがあり吸湿・通気性に優れた和紙の糸（木材パルプやマニラ麻原料を機械で漉いた和紙を、極細のテープ状にスリットして紙縒り-こより-にしてつくった糸）を使って 五股旅（いつまたたび）＝ 5本指くつした をつくりました。

残糸のシルクと新しい和紙糸を組み合わせる事で、通常なら価格的に難しいと思われる素材の組み合わせを実現したZANSHIN series 。技を終えても心途切れず、力を緩めながらも注意を払い余韻を残す、日本の武道および芸道において用いられる残心と言う言葉にもインスパイアされたシリーズです。

10ゲージの5本指靴下編機を使用し、生成（きなり）の シルクと和紙糸を使ってつくったくつしたを「main du chat」（マン・ドゥ・シャ）＝フランス語で「猫の手」の意 と名付けました。
かかとをしっかり編み込み、履き口のゴム部分の締め付け感も修正を繰り返し、圧迫感のない程度のフィット感で最小に抑えた快適なくつしたです。
シルクと和紙の天然由来の吸湿性・通気性・保温性を兼ね備えており、肌触りはザラついた軽い食感のフランス菓子 langue de chat（ラング・ド・シャ）＝フランス語で「猫の舌」を彷彿させ、サラリとした快適な履き心地。
5本指くつしたを五つの股のある足袋に、saredo のあたらしい家族として加わった猫と「いつかまた旅（股旅）に出たい」と言う思いを込めた旅と暮しの道具として、シンプルでありながら多様な見立てをお楽しみいただけましたらと思います。

five-toed socks made of ZANSHIN silk and Japanese paper yarn
“Main du chat”

The first part of the ZANSHIN series, saredo's new release, “ITSUMATATABI”.

When saredo's ito “cirque du soie -silk circus-“ is twisted together at a twisting factory in Hyogo Pref., a very small amount of the remaining silk pongee yarn (silk noil) that is usually discarded as a loss is picked up and stored together.
When a certain amount of yarn has accumulated, we send the remaining yarn to a twisted yarn factory in Aichi Pref., where craftsmen carefully join one by one by hand, and then join it again until it is ready for industrial use.

Using this recycled silk yarn and Japanese paper yarn, which is light, firm and excellent in moisture absorption and air permeability (a yarn made by slitting Japanese paper made from wood pulp and Manila hemp into ultra-fine tape-like slits and twisting them into twisted paper called “kotori” in Japanese), we made five-toed socks.

The ZANSHIN series has achieved a combination of materials that would normally be considered difficult in terms of price by combining this recycled silk and new Japanese paper threads.
This series is also inspired by the word "zanshin", which is used in Japanese martial arts and art and means that when you finish a skill, you don't lose heart, you relax your strength, but you pay attention and leave a lingering impression.

We named the socks "main du chat" (meaning "cat's hand" in French), which are made using 10-gauge five-toed sock knitting machine and raw white silk pongee yarn and Japanese paper yarn.

The silk and washi paper are naturally-derived, moisture absorbing, breathable and heat-retaining, and the texture is light and rough to the touch, reminiscent of the French confectionery langue de chat, or "cat's tongue" in French, for a dry and comfortable fit.

The word MATATABI is reminiscent of the Japanese word "travel and walk around the world", "I want to travel again", or "a plant similar to catnip".

We hope that you will enjoy the simple yet diverse look of this product as a tool for traveling and living, such as a five-toed sock that looks like a classical Japanese socks "tabi" with five crotches, or a cat that has joined the saredo family as a new member of the family and "I want to go on a “catrip” together someday".
